Sikh rights group to serve US court summons to PM in Delhi

A Sikh rights group has said it will serve US court summons to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi in connection with the alleged human rights violations in the counter-insurgency operations in Punjab in the 1990s.

A Sikh rights group has said it will serve US court summons to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi in connection with the alleged human rights violations in the counter-insurgency operations in Punjab in the 1990s.

The rights group, Sikh for Justice, has planned to serve the summons on Singh during his visit to Washington last week but could not do so due to "high security detail."

"Following Washington DC's law on service of summons, SFJ will now serve Manmohan Singh in India through Hague Convention on the Service Abroad of Judicial and Extra-Judicial Documents.

"Due to the high security detail, the rights group couldnot serve outstanding US Federal Court summons on Prime Minister during Obama-Singh's meeting at White House," SFJ Legal Advisor Gurpatwant Singh Pannun said here.
