Sikkim among best performing smaller states

The India Today group has selected Sikkim for a special award for being one of the best performing smaller states in the country.

The India Today group has selected Sikkim for a special award for being one of the best performing smaller states in the country, official sources said on Thursday.

Chief minister Pawan Kumar Chamling who is currently in the national capital will receive the award from the President APJ Abdul Kalam at the India Today chief ministers' conclave in New Delhi on Friday, his press advisor BB Gooroong said.

Quoting a letter from India Today group Editorial Director Prabhu Chawla to Chamling in this regard Gooroong said the award was being conferred upon the Himalayan state as it ranked high among the smaller states of the country on the parameters of performance.

The award is given annually to states after a survey of their performance along 46 parameters.

Sikkim which falls into the small states' category of the awards had to compete with states like Delhi, Goa, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Pondicherry and Tripura to bag the honour, he added.
