Active in Delhi and adjoining states, Sonu Pathak, Raju, Hitler Vishalia, Shakir, Mujir and Sangeet Sharma and their associates had allegedly been involved in more than 100 cases of car-jacking.

Sharma is said to be a commerce graduate and state-level judo-karate champion.

Acting on prior information on November 5, a team from the special cell apprehended Sonu Pathak and Raju in a vehicle that the duo had allegedly stolen from the Anand Vihar Police Station.

During interrogation, the duo allegedly revealed the location of six stolen cars, in addition to the names of two other associates, Shakir and Hitler,

who were apprehended the same evening from the Jama Masjid area.

Mujir, Shakir and Raju, the alleged masterminds of the gang, used to get cars stolen from various locations by their accomplices and park them at various locations like the LNJP hospital parking, Mata Sundari College road, Jagat Cinema road and various other location in Old Delhi.

The gang would then get in touch with a network of discarded car dealers — involved in the resale of vehicles

damaged in accidents, the police said.

These operatives would then replace the engine and chasis numbers of the stolen cars before selling them off.
