A court convicted Minister of State for Irrigation Surinder Singh Rathore for six months in prison on charges of flouting the safety norms in a mine in Rajsamand district on Thursday.

Chief judicial magistrate Randhir Mirdha said Rathore is being punished under the Mining Safety Act 1952 and awarded six months’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,000 to him.

The minister, however, said he will not resign and will appeal in a superior court against the lower court’s verdict.
