A 42-year-old resident of Bhagipur village along with his 40-year-old wife and their children jumped before a train at an unmanned crossing at Kuandih, 45 km from here, they said. Two of the children were girls aged between 5-7 years .

The mangled bodies were taken to the Sarai Inayat police station by a police party which reached the spot. The deceased were identified by their relatives, they said.

Investigations are on to ascertain the reasons behind the suicides, they said but ruled out the possibility of poverty driving them to take the extreme step as there was nothing to suggest that they were unable to make both ends meet.
