SL captures Indian dhow with detonators

An Indian dhow carrying 61,858 electric detonators for the LTTE, was captured by the Sri Lankan Navy, reports PK Balachandran.

An Indian dhow carrying 61,858 electric detonators for the LTTE, was captured by the Sri Lankan Navy on Kachchativu island early on Thursday, naval spokesman Commodore DKP Dassanayake said.

The dhow was spotted on Wednesday night heading towards an LTTE-controlled area of Jaffna. Early on Thursday, a Sri Lankan naval party found the dhow beached on Kachchativu Island.

A search of the dhow revealed that there were 38 boxes containing 61,858 electric detonators used for setting off claymore and anti-personnel mines. And the men on board were all Indian nationals, Com Dassanayake said.

The men and material were handed over to the police at Kyts island off Jaffna.
