Even as the state and central governments are blaming each other for the price rise, for the common man this christmas would be an expensive affair.

The price of one kg of chicken has gone up by from Rs 70 to Rs 110 a kg, while exotic fish varieties are costing over Rs 200 a kg.

This Christmas, preparing non-vegetarian delicacy would drill a huge hole in the pocket, a housewife said.

However, rising prices have not seen a fall in sale of different varieties of christmas cakes,which have hit the market.Though prices of plum cakes have not gone up,other varieties have seen an increase by at least 10-15 per cent.

Main bakery owners say there has been 30 per cent increase in sale of cakes compared to last year. Traders at the busy Broadway in Kochi are doing brisk business.Different variety of stars in various hues and shapes are available.

Star hotels have also arranged large spread of christmas feasts featuring traditional and international cuisine in a candle lit thematic ambience.

The Travancore Hotel, run by Actor Mohanlal, is organising live music by 'Halo Flies',and lot of gifts for children.
