Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said Friday that the low interest loan would be for higher studies, including technical and vocational studies.

He said the loans would be provided through the Haryana Women Development Corporation to enable the girls of the state to improve their academic qualifications.

The state has been observing 2006 as "the year of the girl child".

Haryana has one of the lowest sex ratios among the states in the country at around 800 females per 1,000 males. A number of steps were being taken by the state government to empower women and control the malpractice of female foeticide.
