Sonia, Delhi CM discuss MCD demolitions

In the backdrop of the MCD's demolition and sealing drives gathering steam, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Monday held a meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

The meeting, which lasted around 30 minutes, is understood to have discussed ways to address the situation arising out of the court-ordered drives against illegal constructions and commercial establishments running from residential areas in New Delhi.

Earlier, Dikshit told reporters that she has written to Union Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy on the issue.

"I have written to the Union Urban Development Minister and we are holding discussions with the concerned people to find a solution to the issue," she said.

While the MCD has of late intensified its action against illegal constructions following a rap from the Delhi High Court, it resumed sealing of shops in residential areas last week in pursuance of a Supreme Court order.
