Keeping with the tradition, the delegation of the Congress, which is the main opposition party, is scheduled to meet Obama at the ITC Maurya hotel, where Obama will be staying during his three-day visit. The meeting will take place between 2 and 4 pm on Monday.

Sonia had called on Obama in 2010 too during his first visit to India. At that time, Singh was the PM. Then leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and her counterpart in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley had called on him. The three Congress leaders had also met Chinese President Xi Jinping during his India visit in September last year.

During the UPA-II, Obama and Singh shared a good rapport and the US President had even referred to Singh as a “good friend”.
