Accompanied by a large posse of security personnel, Gandhi and Patil drove to the private Farhan hospital where a large number of the injured are admitted.
The media were not allowed to enter the hospital premises during their visit. Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh had also reached Malegaon.
Gandhi and Patil will also be visiting the blast sites at Mushaira Chowk and the Bada Kabaristan and take stock of the situation in this communally-sensitive Muslim-dominated textile town.
Earlier, a group of agitated people, thronging the Farhan hospital area, pelted stones at a TV outdoor broadcasting van.
However, the situation was immediately brought under control by the security personnel.
