Kalam Thursday delivered a lecture through a video link from Rashtrapati Bhavan as part of the awards ceremony after being invited by South African President Thabo Mbeki.
In his address on 'Human Evolution and Progress,' Kalam underscored the need for fighting global challenges like terrorism and environmental degradation collectively.
"India and South Africa should work together to transform the planet into a peaceful, prosperous and happy place to live in," said Kalam.
India and South Africa will further intensify their multi-faceted ties when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh goes on a four-day visit to that country Saturday.
