The menace of mosquitoes coupled with prolonged hours of power cuts has aggravated their woes. Several areas of the south city including Saket Nagar, Govind Nagar, Kidwai Nagar, Nirala Nagar, Dabouli, Gujaini, World Bank Barra and Ratanlal Nagar are facing acute power crisis for the past one month.

The problem has been aggravated by local faults. Due to the acute shortage of staff it takes several days to fix a local fault. Many substations are running short of staff in the south city and the quintessential task of repairing local faults has been entrusted to private gang members.

Dakshin Vikas Sangharsh Samiti president Ghanshyam Tripathi said that almost the entire south city remained without power for almost 12 hours daily.
Tripathi said the mosquito menace in the south city had added to the woes of the residents.

Tripathi also pointed out that shortage of staff at substations had reached an alarming level and at Dabouli and the World Bank Barra substations only two linemen were left.

“At Dabouli substation no junior engineer has been posted for the past two months and only a private gang is left to attend the complaints,” said Tripathi.
Members of the Dakshin Vikas Sangharsh Samiti said that the Naubasta substation was also running short of staff.

It may be recalled that the agitated residents of Dabouli and World Bank Barra had staged a demonstration last month at the office of General Manager of KESCo KU Khan demanding redressal of their complaints but to no avail. The Samiti has requested the Managing Director of KESCo Arun to inspect the Dabouli and World Bank Barra substations to verify the complaints.
