THE SAMAJWADI Party today assailed the Congress for creating situations that led to the disqualification of party MP Jaya Bachchan from the Rajya Sabha.
Reacting to the Supreme Court decision rejecting Jaya’s petition, SP national general secretary Beni Prasad Verma and State president Ram Saran Das said if corrective measures, which were being taken now to protect the membership of Left Party leaders, had been taken earlier, Jaya’s membership could have been saved.
Verma said the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government came out of hibernation only when Sonia Gandhi was targeted on the issue.
He said Parliament session commencing from May 11 would take up the issue and solve the problem.
He said before taking any legislative measures, the issue should be discussed threadbare at an all-party meeting.
The party was committed to send Jaya Bachchan to the Upper House on the same seat that fell vacant following of her disqualification, he said.
