Accusing the Uttar Pradesh government of trying to forment communal tension through a demolition drive, a Samajwadi Party delegation today met state Governor B L Joshi and demanded dismissal of the Mayawati government.
A delegation led by Leader of Opposition in the Vidhan Sabha, Shivpal Singh Yadav, drew the attention of the Governor on the demolition of about 200 houses in Pipraghat area and also a mosque, which was demolished in the process.
Alleging that the act was a conspiracy to instigate communal riots, the SP leaders urged the Govenor to take stern action against the guilty and immediately dismiss the state government.
The locals, residing for the last 25 years in the area, are being harassed since the past couple of days, they alleged in the memorandum and said that a proper notice was not served to them before carrying out the demolition drive.
The SP has demanded proper rehabilitation of the victims, apart from a compensation of Rs five lakhs to each family. The delegation also demanded suspension of the concerning police circle officer and adequate punishment to the guilty police and Lucknow Development Authority officials, who carried out the drive.
The party had yesterday alleged that the area has been cleared to create space for setting up another park.
