Babbar, who has of late launched a vitriolic attack against party General Secretary Amar Singh, was suspended from the Parliamentary Party on Tuesday by its leader Ram Gopal Yadav.

The suspension took place a day after the MP from Agra had a meeting with party supremo and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Highly placed party sources said the leadership was awaiting a report on Babbar from the three-member Disciplinary Action Committee headed by senior leader Kalyan Jain.

MP Udai Pratap Singh and UP Minister Khwaja Hallem are the two other members of the DAC.

The DAC is different from the three Member Committee constituted on Tuesday by Ram Gopal Yadav, under Mohan Singh to go into the "entire conspiracy" behind Babbar's outburst against Amar Singh and the party.

However, the sources made it clear that expulsion of Babbar depends upon the findings of the two committees.

SP leaders also took a dig at Babbar for his challenge to take on any party leader except Mulayam Singh from any constituency in UP and outside.

They said that Agra was the only Lok Sabha seat where the party lost all the seven Assembly seats despite giving tickets to people 'handpicked' by Babbar.

Babbar's revolt was the first open attack from within the party against Amar Singh, who has risen to prominence sidelining many a veteran to become the most trusted lieutenent of Mulayam Singh in the last few years.
