SAMAJWADI PARTY MLA from Rampur district Kashiram Diwakar suffered gunshot injuries when his licensed revolver went off under mysterious circumstances at his official Darulshafa flat on Wednesday night.

The MLA, however, claimed the revolver went off accidentally. The police came to know about the incident on Thursday afternoon only after mediapersons reached the KGMU Trauma Centre where the injured was undergoing treatment. His condition was stated to be stable.

The incident took place at the MLA’s A-17 flat after he returned home around 10.30 pm. Kashiram’s wife Munni Devi, sons Santosh and Rahul, daughter Lakshmi, Santosh’s wife and children were present in the flat. A block pramukh from the MLA’s constituency Shahabad Hari Gyan Singh Yadav and the latter’s police gunners Ompal Singh and Suresh Chandra Tomar, too, were in the flat.

Santosh said his father went to the bathroom carrying the revolver. There, the MLA suddenly lost control and fell on the floor, accidentally pulling the trigger.

The bullet perforated Kashiram’s right arm. The family members and the gunners ran to the bathroom to find the MLA lying in a pool of blood. They rushed him to the Trauma Centre where he was admitted for treatment. The MLA said it was he who had asked the family members not to inform the police.

But, a statement made by one of the gunners cast doubts on the MLA’s version.

Gunner Ompal Singh told the mediapersons that the revolver went off when it was kept on the bed. There were different statements about the time of the incident when the victim was admitted to hospital at 11.55 pm.

However, police entered the MLA’s statement as the cause of injury in the general diary (GD) of Hazratganj police station.
