Addressing an election rally in Mohammadabad this morning in support of party candidate Alka Rai, the BJP chief lashed out at the ruling Samajwadi Party for plunging the state into backwardness and allowing the criminals to let loose a reign of terror in the state during its over two years’ rule.

Alka Rai is the widow of Krishnanand Rai who along with seven of his aides was killed on November 29 in his home district. Singh said Alka Rai was not only the nominee of the BJP but the voice of entire Ghazipur whose landslide victory would automatically finish the ‘Ravana’ of Gazipur.

‘Ravana’ was his innuendo towards legislator Mukhtar Ansari who along with his elder brother MP Afzal Ansari hasbeen named as accused in the sensational murder of Krishnanand Rai.

He said Rai’s victory in the bypoll was necessary as it would send a message to the politicians in power in the state that their days were numbered and the BJP’s return to power in the coming Assembly elections was almost certain.

“The BJP will form government on its own after the coming assembly elections”, Singh declared, adding, “people are fed up with the sorry state of affairs in the state after the Samajwadi Party assumed power in the state”.

Criticising both the state and the Central governments for the spiralling prices of essential commodities, the BJP Chief said during the BJP-led NDA government’s tenure, the price of sugar per kilogramme did not cross Rs 13, but it had crossed Rs 23 under the Congress-led UPA government.

Taking a dig at Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh for raising a hue and cry about telephone tapping, Rajnath Singh said if Amar Singh had utilised this energy for addressing the problems of the people, UP would not have been passing through a crisis merely because of failures of the state government.

Besides Alka Rai, former MP Manoj Sinha was also present on the occasion.
