Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted the duo at Pul-Doda area in the district and recovered the money on Saturday night, police said.

They have been identified as Imtiyaz-ul-Rehman, brother of Superintendent of Police (CID) Haseeb-ul-Rehman of Bhaderwah and a former sarpanch Altaf Hussain Malik, they said.

The two have been shifted to joint interrogation center to know the details about militancy in Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban belt and the militant outfit's infrastructure.

The duo was given Rs 5 lakh by a Hizb functionary for distribution among the outfit's over ground workers (OGW) last month, they said.

After distributing the money to the OGWs, they were going to return the remaining amount of Rs 1.28 lakh to him when police arrested them enroute, they said.

A case has been registered in this connection, they said.
