Special ?Veerangna? force for ladies coaches

Railway Ministry has set up 'Veerangna' to ensure safe journey for women in trains in suburban areas.

The Railway Ministry has set up 'Veerangna', a task force comprising lady constables, to ensure safe journey for women in trains in suburban areas under the supervision of Divisional Security Commissioner, Delhi, the Lok Sabha was informed on Thursday.

The task force, consisting of a group of young Railway Protection Force (RPF) constables, is functioning in Delhi division and is conducting drives against unauthorised male passengers travelling in Ladies Coaches of the suburban trains, Minister of State for Railways R Velu told the Lok Sabha in a written reply.

During June 6 to July 12 this year, this special group achieved outstanding results and succeeded in detecting as many as 654 cases in which male passengers were found travelling unauthorisedly in ladies coaches.

Action was initiated against the arrested people under the provisions of section 162 of the Railways Act, 1989.

He said all suburban trains in Delhi area are being checked regularly by the ‘Veerangna’ team.
