"We were taught about how to interact with foreign visitors and welcome them with our facial expressions," said Mehak Ahuja, a resident of Rajouri Garden and B.Tech student of Maharaja Surajmal Institute of Technology in Janakpuri.
The Amity Group of Institutions, which is hosting the volunteer training programme, was to make available its premises till July 4 but at the request of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee, it has extended the date to September 15.
Lady Sri Ram College's Sanya Sehgal said, "I feel proud to be associated with the Commonwealth Games. I want to project India's culture and hospitality before foreign visitors and let them feel what we mean by 'Atithi Devo Bhava'."
Dr Munish Chander, Deputy Director General-Doping Control CWG, told HT, "Around 100 students from Amity Institute of Physiotherapy and Amity Institute of Forensic Sciences have also been chosen as volunteers and are being trained to act as dope control officials under supervision of senior officers during the Commonwealth Games."
Dr Ashok Chauhan, founder chairman of Amity Group of Institutions, said, "Beside Hindi and English, the volunteers have knowledge of one additional language such as German, French, Persian, Italian."
When asked why hasn't the Commonwealth Games committee selected a brand ambassador till now, Sudhir Mittal said it was beyond his purview of activities. Mittal is the SDG Workforce of the CW Organizing Committee.
