"The highway was opened for traffic today and vehicles were allowed to ply from Jammu to Srinagar," a traffic department spokesman said here.

The highway, the only all-weather road-link between Kashmir and the rest of the country, remained closed for traffic for two days as Kashmir witnessed season's heaviest snowfall on Sunday.

The heavy rains and snowfall resulted in landslides at several places along the 300-km arterial road.

However, the authorities pressed men and machinery into service and the road was cleared off the debris.

The traffic on the national highway during winter is allowed to ply one-way only on alternate days from Srinagar to Jammu and vice-versa as rains and snow lead to frequent disruption in traffic.
