ST Micro to hire engineers in India

Franco Italian semiconducter manufacturers major ST Microelectronics, will recruit 300 new engineers by end of this year.

The MNC which today operationlised its new design and R&D centre in Greater Noida with a capacity of 5000 engineers, is ST Microelectronics's largest design centre outside Europe.

"Currently we have 1500 engineers and we will hire another 300 by the end of 2006", CEO and President Carlo Bozotti said.

The company few years ago had announced 100 million dollar investment and under that investment it has so far invested 70 million dollar.

"We plan to invest $30 million in local operations over the next two years", Bozotti said.

The new facility undelines the growing importance of ST's India operations within our global R&D efforts.", he said.

The capacity of 5000 engineers represent 15 per cent of our R&D scientists globally and this should prove ST Microelectonics's growing operations in the country.

Bozotti is also hopeful of India significantly contributing to the parent in future from its current one per cent.

"Currently India contributes one per cent of our global revenue but the market here is growing, so we will also grow", he said.

ST Microelectronics which makes semiconductors for digital applications for multimedia, imaging, wireless telecom, automotive and set-top boxes has some Indian clients as well.
