Sujata Reddy gets into the romantic mood at Juhu’s Il Terrazzo.Updated: Feb 06, 2009, 12:59 IST
Open skies, rows of potted plants, pillows posing on cushy chairs.. all bathed in candlelight, that’s Il Terrazzo for you. Located on the rooftop of Del Italia in Juhu, the haunt is a must-visit for those looking for a dreamy dinner outing. The romantic setting makes the place a couple magnet but there are groups of teenagers and adults too. So, you don’t have to worry about being the only group of friends among innumerable cosy couples.
The flip-side to the pleasant ambience is that the view is restricted to the potted plants and open skies. It’s only after the mosquitoes add to your woes that help comes in the form of mosquito repellant coils lit under the table. Hey, how about lighting them a little in advance, guys?
With a long list of wines in both red and white varietals, there’s enough to please the senses. For an instant cooler, the Watermelon Caiprioshka, Rs 350, a medley of vodka, melon liqueur, fresh watermelon, lime and mint is likeable. Martinis, beers, vodkas, rum.. the menu has a wide choice, and for a change, the items listed are actually available off the 0shelf too.
The starters are ho hum. Try the Prawns with Aglio Olio and Peperoncino and Balsamic Marinated Grilled Mushrooms. Salmon fans will dig the Salmon Tartare. The pepperoni batter onion rings are passable. The highlight of the menu are the pizzas. A crispy crust holds vegetarian and non-vegetarian toppings. Parma Ham and Rucola with Bocconcini, Rs 210, is appetising, but for selective taste buds. Polo – Minced chicken and peppers, Rs 180 is for those who want to play it safe.
Weekdays and more
Mid-week, Il Terrazzo hosts Daddy’s Wind Song, an event where the city crooners take centrestage every Wednesday.. with food, drinks and music. But you’ll have to book a table well in advance, or risk wrestling with your neighbour for some leg space.
The location also allows for a walk after a sumptuous dinner and booze as the beach is bang opposite the lounge. If you haven’t had enough of the starry view, the wind in your hair and waves brushing past your feet ends a romantic night out at Il Terrazzo.
