Minister of state for information technology Feroz Ahmad has directed the power development and IT departments to provide an online billing system for power through Khidmat Centres.
He issued these directions in a meeting held to review the status of the online billing system.
The officials informed the minister that in September last year, the power development department (PDD) had issued a letter to Jammu and Kashmir Bank to authorise Kidmat Centres for electricity bill collection, but the bank had "not reciprocated adequately".
It was decided in the meeting that an alternate mechanism would be implemented by the PD and IT departments to facilitate the online payment system. J&K Bank was also urged to come out with a mechanism for bill payment at the earliest.
Responding to the connectivity-related issues raised by the Khidmat Centre representatives, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) officials said many measures had been taken to improve connectivity.
PDD principal secretary, IT commissioner secretary, senior ofrficers of BSNL and J&K Bank, additional CEO of J&K E-Governance Agency, NIC state information officer, state e-mission team and representatives of Khidmat Centres attended the meeting.
