State to abide by UGC order on NET/SET issue

Maharashtra Minister for Higher and Technical Education Rajesh Tope on Sunday said the state would abide by the University Grants Commission’s (UGC’s) decision on regularising teachers who haven’t cleared their National Eligibility Test (NET) or State Eligibility Test (SET).

“The state has requested UGC to resolve the issue of these 6,000 teachers without NET or SET and give them exemption. The date of exemption would be implemented as per UGC’s order,” Tope said.

Teachers want the government to regularise teachers appointed between 1991 and 2000 who have not cleared NET or SET.

The Cabinet has accepted the teachers’ demand to hike salaries and the state will revise pay scales, Tope said.
