STF starts investigation

Later on Yadav described this assassination attempt as a political conspiracy owing to his increasing popularity in the district.

Following the attack on Yadav, the state government had ordered the STF to investigate the case. The STF arrived in Ghazipur on Tuesday.

Meanwhile the accused, Surya Bali Yadav responsible for attempting an attack on the minister, made an abortive attempt of committing suicide by trying to cut his throat with a sharp edged object in police station lockup where he was being interrogated on Tuesday. However he failed in the attempt but injured himself.

He was immediately taken to the district hospital for treatment. SSP for STF, SK Bhagat confirmed about the investigation by his team and described the accused as mentally retarded. He also informed that no information came up during the investigation of accused. After talking to the accused, the STF also sought information about the case from the senior cops.

It may be noted that the accused, Surya Bali Yadav attempted to attack the minister with a knife during the inaugural function of a small bridge on road in Ghazipur.

Demonstration: Locals staged a demonstration at the district headquarters in Chandauli on Wednesday to protest the arrest of three persons including the husband of the block pramukh of Barahni Development Block under Arms Act.

The men identified as Mahendra Singh, husband of block pramukh, Ashok and Keshvir had been arrested by cops in Chandauli. Police had also recovered a pistol from their possession. Police had kept them in the lock-up since the night. Meanwhile, the supporters of arrested men staged a demonstration at the district headquarters for their release but cops produced them in the court from where they were sent to jail.
