Indonesia was on Saturday hit by the latest in a series of strong quakes in the wake of last month's tsunami-triggering seismic shift, but there were no new reports of casualties or damage, officials said.

The tremor, measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale, struck at 8:47 pm (local time) some 200 kilometres south west of Jakarta, a spokesman for the government meteorological office said.
Indonesia has been jolted by scores of strong aftershocks following the magnitude-9.0 earthquake on December 26 that threw up waves killing more than 163,000 people on shorelines around the Indian Ocean basin.
