A youth who claimed to be the final year student of a local government college demanded Rs 1 lakh from a lecturer against whom he, along with others, was leading an agitation. He allegedly threatened the lecturer to spoil his image and his government job by fueling the agitation against the latter.

The lecturer who was accused of an attempt to molest a girl of his class, produced the recorded version of the conversation in a CD to the police based on which a case of extortion was registered against the youth on Wednesday. The youth identified as Deepak is still at large.

However, neither the police nor the principal of the Government PG College, MG Road have been able to establish whether or not the youth was a student of the college or an outsider.

The students and the outsiders had been agitating against the commerce lecturer Subhash Sapra since December 15 when he was accused of molestation attempt on a Ist year commerce girl student. A criminal case against the lecturer was registered on December 23.

“Deepak called me from a cell number 9868857185 and threatened if I would not pay him Rs 1 lakh, he would ignite the agitation against him, get my house stoned and he would also put my government job in jeopardy,” Sapra said.
