Overlooking of a prior decision of the executive council (EC) of the university regarding collection of degree fees led to the confusion in the matter. The university had come out with a notification in month of November asking students to pay the degree fees of Rs 250 along with exam fees.

But after protests from students, university executive council during its recent meeting shot down the notification of the university administration saying that the EC’s prior approval was not sought for the decision.

Interestingly, all concerned including the registrar Dr Tiwari, simply forgot that the decision of charging the degree fees had already been approved by the EC during the month of June.

Dr Tiwari was not the registrar when this decision was taken, but the EC members themselves also forgot the issue. The matter was however clarified later when the registrar went through the records.

‘It was a matter of overlooking of facts. The decision to collect the degree fees stands and the final year students must pay it with the exam fees,’ Dr Tiwari said while speaking to Hindustan Times.

He mentioned that the decision of distributing degrees along with mark sheets is beneficial for students, as they would not have to come to the university again and again to get their degrees. Also the immediate receipt of degrees would help them in their career prospects.
