Students demand dissolution of SSC

STUDENTS APPEARING for competitive examinations staged a demonstration at the UP Public Service Commission (UPPSC) and blocked the national highway in support of their demands here on Thursday.

The students were demanding restoration of recruitment of Lower/UDA/LDA to the UPPSC and to dissolve the Subordinate Service Commission, Lucknow.

Allahabad University (AU) students led by student leader Vijay Kumar Dwivedi assembled at the UPPSC and staged a demonstration. The students demanded to meet the UPPSC chairman but the chairman did not turn up and irritated students blocked the national highway. The roadblock was cleared after ACM (second) BS Ojha accepted the memorandum.

Addressing the students, Dwivedi charged the State Government for harassing the economically weak and talented students. He said the students would intensify the agitation if the Subordinate Selection Commission was not dissolved and the examination of Lower/UDA/LDA were not conducted by UPPSC.

Protest against reservation: The Allahabad University students took out a procession and burnt the effigy of Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Meira Kumar against her statement for reservation in the private sector, here on Thursday.

The students said they would not endure reservation policies being proposed by the UPA Government.

Addressing students, Shukla said Kumar was least concerned for imparting justice in society. He also criticised the working of the committee formed by the centre to review the reservation policy and headed by Veerappa Moiley. He said the committee had advocated reservation without any investigation. He said there was no transparency in the working of the committee hence its report could not be considered for the reservation policy and only the High Court could resolve the issue.

Student warned against any move for reservation in private sector and expressed determination to oppose the proposed reservation for OBCs in higher education. Those present were Atul Gupta, Shailendra Upadhyay, Sushant Tiwari, Saik Qamar, Shivam Shukla, Pankaj Pandey, Sahil Singh, Anand Tiwari and Brijesh Singh.

Arpita Srivastava of IIM-Ahmedabad and Rishi Raj Das Gupta of IIM-Kolkata would be keynote speakers on the occasion.
