Students of a school here on Tuesday had a miraculous escape when the roof of the class in which they were studying collapsed and the girls studying in the class right above it on the first floor came crashing down down.

12 girls were injured but they are all stated to be out of danger.

At around 1:40 pm, when the last period was on in the local Hindu Girls Senior Secondary School, the roof of the class X collapsed.

The girls of Class IX, which was situated above the same class on the first floor, hurtled down along with the rubble.

Shopkeepers helped the school staff in rescuing the girls and take them to the civil hospital where they are undergoing treatment.

Saroj Sehgal, Principal of the school, said the building of the school was over 100 years old and in the absence of adequate funds, majority of the buildings were in a pitiable condition.

Around 250 girls are studying in the school which is a government aided institution.
