SCUFFLE BETWEEN a teacher and some student leaders on the Teacher’s Day came as a shock for the entire teachers community of the DDU Gorakhpur University. The incident took place on a day when the members of Gorakhpur University Affiliated Teachers’ Association (GUACTA) were wearing black ribbons to express their protest against the recent assault on Prof Sabharwal at Madhav College, Ujjain.

Reports said student leader Pawan Kumar accompanied with some other youths, arrived at the convocation hall for admission in BA I evening classes. They manhandled a teacher present there and used abusive language. Though the staff intervened to save the professor, but the students threatened the professor with dire consequences.

Reacting to the incident, the staff and teachers boycotted the admission work and raised slogans against the university authorities. The police arrived about two hours late on the spot.

Meanwhile, chief proctor Prof Rajendra Prasad said that Pawan Kumar, who was a student of MA II (Sociology) had been suspended from the university with immediate effect.

At Saraswati Shishu Mandir Senior Secondary School principal of the college Lalta Prasad Pandey and vice president Umashanker Singh said teachers should inspire the students.
