About 300 students from different engineering colleges of the City gathered at the Chinar Park in the evening, proceeded in a form of rally to Mata Mandir Square, from where a candlelight rally was held till the Roshanpura Square.
At Roshanpura Square the students formed a human chain to register their point. Spokespersons for the Engineers Against Reservation Nimesh Agrawal and Kinshu Sinha said that the demand is that the government should phase out reservations and take affirmative action for the uplift of the backward classes.
If the government still wants to go in for reservation, it should be done at primary level and on economic basis, they said.
The students from UIT of Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya, Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT), Technocrats Institute of Technology (TIT), RKDF, LNCT and other colleges participated in the rally.
