The rain was intense and soon, triggered terrible waterlogging on the roads. There were traffic jams lasting over an hour even after the rains had stopped in Charbagh, Hussainganj, Ashok Marg, Nishatganj and few other areas.

However, the rain did wash away the humidity and heat. Before the rain, the city had been experiencing phenomenally high humidity levels and heat till Saturday evening.
The rain happened as the moisture feed got reconnected with the monsoon in East UP and North UP areas. Lucknow falling in these areas got lucky due to proximity to these areas. The conditions that were providing rain to Mumbai and nearby areas, had exhausted. The winds were gobbling up all the moisture from the sea, disconnecting supply to UP. This resulted in restoration of moisture feed to this part of the country. Currently the State is receiving direct moisture feed from Arabian Sea and there were no hurdles in between to deplete it till it reached over UP.
“Under such conditions, the foothills and East UP areas get lot of rains and this is what has happened. The conditions are going to be like this for the next 24-hours,” say the weatherman.
The weatherman said there might be heavy rains in East UP and North UP areas and some areas within these may get very heavy rains. Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Basti, Allahabad, Lucknow, and several foot hill areas got substantial rains.
However, the areas in North West UP did not get any rains and may not get it in next few days either as they are cut off from the conditions that are over the rest of the UP. So, areas like Agra, Jhansi or Ghaziabad may continue to be dry for some time.
