Well, nothing really came near to the upset in the Lok Sabha elections, leading to the formation of the seemingly unstable UPA government. But Sonia Gandhi's declining of the prime ministership came pretty close, taking the nation, opponents and supporters alike, by surprise.

The results of the Andhra elections had just a day earlier gone much the same way, when the high profile N Chandrababu Naidu was swept away - something almost unimaginable.

The murder charges against the Kanchi Shankaracharya shocked many, as did the suicide of the seemingly successful model, Nafisa Joseph. But what perhaps holds the nation in thrall as the year draws to a close is the rampant advance of sex in our everyday lives - and 'our' here including the one segment it was supposed to be out of bounds for, the minors.
