The forthcoming Mohandas seems to be witnessing an identity crisis of sorts. Lead actors, Nakul Vaid and Sushant Singh, got into a verbal duel over who was playing the title role.

Along with the cinema-tographer-director Mazhar Kamran, the two actors were interacting with the media at the Sa Re Ga Ma office in Juhu on Friday afternoon when the incident happened.

According to a source, “Nakul, in the middle of a press interaction, became edgy when he overheard Sushant saying that he was playing Mohandas in the film. Nakul confronted Sushant for stating that on camera when he wasn’t the protagonist.”
Vaid’s claim that he was the protagonist and not Singh, offended the latter, prompting him to wonder aloud, ‘Come on! Am I not Mohandas too in the film, Nakul? What makes you so offensive on this?’” says the source, adding that it lead to a heated debate.

Different strokes
When asked, Singh termed the verbal duel as a “Rye ka pahaad,” adding that the reel life drama spilled into real. “I was doing an interview and maybe Nakul heard only the part in which I said that I was playing Mohandas. I can understand his predicament. He thought I was trying be one-up on him without knowing the context clearly. So I was taken aback,” explain Singh.

However, Vaid has a different take. “The usual interviews are monotonous. So Sushant and I pulled this one on Mazhar. When I questioned him why was he telling the media that he was playing Mohandas, he took off from there and we nearly came to blows,” he reveals, adding that the prank ended when he suddenly burst out laughing. “The expression on Mazhar’s face made me laugh,” chuckles the actor.

It’s another thing that director Kamran didn’t see the humour, a la Singh. He clarifies, “I felt it was okay for Sushant to say that he’s playing Mohandas. So I explained to Nakul that they were both playing that part. I felt there’s nothing wrong in what Sushant said. Nakul had to understand. And they didn’t come to blows really. Everything was sorted.”
