Police said that a road opening team of the army’s Rashtriya Rifles found the object lying by the roadside on Keller-Shopian road.

Some media reports quoting unnamed police officers said the object was an IED fitted in a 5-kg gas cylinder.

However, district’s superintendent of police Sajad Ahmad Shah said it was a “suspicious looking object”.

“It was early morning that army detected the object. They destroyed it immediately. We can’t say with certainty what it was,” he added.

Army spokesman N.N Joshi did not respond despite repeated calls.
