Police in Bangalore have arrested a suspected terrorist from Jammu and Kashmir with an AK-47 rifle and ammunition.

The 22-year-old man who has given his name Imran alias Bilal was taken into custody by the city crime branch when he alighted from a private bus on the outskirts of the city with a weapon and live cartridges, officials said.

"The bus was coming from Hospet in Bellary district, about 350 km from here," Bangalore Police Commissioner N Achuta Rao said.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that he had been staying in Bellary district for over a month.

Imran is suspected to have been trying to sell weapons and ammunition at Hospet, a tourist town where a sizeable number of Kashmiri refugees run handicraft shops and curios near the Hampi heritage site, a police sleuth said.
