STATE WOMEN Commission (SWC) has become redundant and must be abolished with immediate effect. Even after two days of Anju’s admission at LLR hospital none of the members of SWC had visited her. This was stated by the State president of the Mahila Congress Sudha Rai while talking to newsmen here on Wednesday.

Rai was in the city to have a first hand account of the attack on Anju. It may be recalled that the right hand of Anju of Chinta Ka Purwa village in Auraiya district was chopped off by the miscreants when they failed to rape her.
“The SWC is a statutory body but it seems that it is working under pressure of the Samajwadi Party,” Rai stated.
Even after five days of the gruesome act the culprits were still roaming free and no FIR had been lodged against them, Rai added.
Demanding compensation from the State government for the rehabilitation of Anju, Rai said, “The State Congress Committee has demanded a compensation of Rs 10 lakh from the State government for the rehabilitation of Anju.”
The Congress party would also decide about the compensation for Anju after handing over the report of the incident to the central leadership of the party, Rai pointed out.
Expressing her concern over the increasing incidents of crime against women in the State, Rai said, “A monthly crime report against women in the State will be prepared by district president of the Mahila Congress. This report will be handed over to the central leadership of the party for further action.”
For the overall development of women, Mahila Congress had been demanding 33 per cent reservation for them in Parliament, Rai said.
Rai further said, “The law and order situation in the State is getting worse with each passing day and the attack on Anju is a glaring example of this deteriorating situation.”
Rai informed that from March 1, a statewide agitation would be launched against the SP government.
State general secretary of the Mahila Congress Nusrat Rizvi said that chief minister has failed to delegate his responsibilities and therefore he must resign.
Another senior leader of the Mahila Congress Jaya Shukla said several welfare schemes for women in the State would be launched with the assistance of Kendriya Samaj Kalyan Board.
“The projects will be aimed at providing employment to women apart from assisting them to start their own business. For this, self-help groups will also be formed in the State,” Shukla added.
Meanwhile, to know the well-being of Anju, state president of the Congress women’s wing Sudha Rai and other office-bearers visited the LLR hospital here today.
After the visit of BSP leader KK Gautam to the hospital on Tuesday, when state president of the women wing of the congress party arrived at the LLR hospital, the patients and kin of Anju at ward no 3 initially got the impression that some administrative officer had come to give them justice but they were disappointed when these leaders started a political discussions in the ward.
When Nusrat Siddiqi and Jaya Shukla, the other leaders of the women’s wing, Nusrat said, “Indeed, it is a serious matter and the future of a teen-aged girl is in danger. We would request the women’s commission to pay Rs 2 lakh to the victim.”
Earlier, Viresh Yadav chopped off the right arm of Anju (17) at Chinta Ka Purwa village under Achchala police station in Auraiya on February 11.
However, when the political leaders left the hospital, Anju talking to the HT said, “I don’t want money. I want stern action against Viresh and two of his accomplices as early as possible.”
Meanwhile, the police raided several places in and around Auraiya to nab Viresh and his father Maan Singh Yadav.
