I must see to it that the classes are conducted regularly that is the foundation of all academic and research activities in any department or faculty. I also want to generate consciousness among the teachers as well as the students towards taking and attending classes regularly. I am confident that this will change the entire academic scenario. I would like to emphasise on the quality of teaching and research work too. The plan is there to also revise the syllabus in terms of making it more contemporary and have better interactive sessions for them instead of confining the students to classroom teaching.
As the new Dean (Commerce), what are your top priorities?
I must see to it that the classes are conducted regularly that is the foundation of all academic and research activities in any department or faculty. I also want to generate consciousness among the teachers as well as the students towards taking and attending classes regularly. I am confident that this will change the entire academic scenario. I would like to emphasise on the quality of teaching and research work too. The plan is there to also revise the syllabus in terms of making it more contemporary and have better interactive sessions for them instead of confining the students to classroom teaching.
Are there any plans to take admissions in MONIRBA through CAT?
It has taken us almost 10 years to come to a stage where we are conducting the admission test independently and admitting students as per our standard for the entrance test which was earlier conducted through CAT. The strength of our test can be best gauged by the fact that the test scores are being accepted by even other reputed institutions including the GB Pant Social Science Institute.
What steps are being taken for the placement?
We aim at achieving 100 per cent placement for our MBA students. However the campus recruitment fluctuates at times due to various reasons. But, still around 80 per cent of our students get selected and bag jobs through on-campus interviews organised through our efforts while the remaining manage by themselves or through our alumni. A good tradition is followed by our alumni who draw candidates from MONIRBA to their organisations. Our pass-out students are today placed in high positions in reputed organisations.
Any major problem or requirement existing in the Commerce department?
Infrastructure is one of the important areas which needs attention. Since the entire strength of commerce students remain in the faculty itself unlike other faculties, the present infrastructure is insufficient. Besides the infrastructure, the inadequate number of teachers is a major problem for the department. We are reduced to only 15 teachers as against a total of 29 posts sanctioned for the department. The dearth of teachers has forced the existing faculty to over work which has affected the quality of teaching and research both. I have apprised the VC of the problems and he has promised to take initiatives to address the problem in this regard.
Why is MONIRBA website not updated regularly?
I know that the MONIRBA website has been neglected and many of its links do not have relevant information. I will take steps on priority to rectify the problem and instructions will be given to the officer concerned in this regard. However, lack of manpower is the main challenge in the task but nevertheless we will try to set up a mechanism so that latest information is available on the Net.
