Leader MM Mani, who had hinted at his party’s hand in the killing of rebel Marxist TP Chandrasekharan in May, has a colleague who had predicted such a thing would happen “soon”. “His head will roll soon. Chandrasekharan can’t touch even a single hair of the party leaders,” CPI(M) leader VP Gopalakrishnan is shown as saying on local TV channels, which have got hold of a video tape of a public meeting in which these utterances were made on February 5, 2010. Chandrasekharan, who left the party in 2008, was hacked to death on May 4 and most of the accused are either party activists or members of killer gangs propped up by the CPI(M). In May 2012, addressing a public meeting in Idukki, Mani had said the party often prepared lists of its opponents and planned their execution. He warned that Chandrasekharan’s killing was not the last political murder in the state. The special investigation team probing the case will summon Gopalakrishnan after examining the tape. Chandrasekharan’s widow, Rema, said: “From day one I said this couldn’t have happened without the blessings of the state leadership.”
