Ratan Tata on Thursday hit out at Bengal’s finance minister Amit Mitra after the latter said the chairman emeritus of the Tata group is “off his head.” Earlier on Thursday, Mitra and another West Bengal minister led a personal attack on chairman emeritus of the Tata group after Ratan Tata claimed he didn’t see any major industrial activity in the state.
While Amit Mitra the state finance and industry minister claimed that the former chairman of the Tata Group is “off his head,” Firhad Hakim the state urban development minister said that the industrial development in West Bengal does not need Ratan Tata’s certificate.
“Ratan Tata is off his head. He should carry on with his hobby – flying planes. I am surprised to know that his company officials did not brief him properly nor does he know about the expansion of his own group companies in West Bengal,” said Mitra.
In a tweet, Tata wrote, “My comments yesterday (Wednesday) referred to my drive from the airport to the Maurya via Rajarhat. I saw lots of residential and commercial development but not much industrial development. I made no comment about the industrial development in the state. Mr Amit Mitra’s comments are therefore surprising.”
Hakim on Thursday criticised Tata and said : “Ratan Tata is not the chairman anymore. He can have his personal opinion. Industrial development in West Bengal does not need Ratan Tata’s certificate. He is trying to politicise the issue.”
