Suitable candidates would be recruited from Singur for various jobs like those of masons and fitters, as per the need of the project, a Tata Motors release said.

Tata Motors had started construction work for the plant on January 21.

The response from the locals in the last three days was indicative of the benefits of the project and also its acceptance in the community, it said.

The number of people working on unskilled jobs has increased to about 250 on a daily basis within three days of the beginning of the construction, the release said.

The work at present comprised construction of the boundary wall for the plant, preliminary preparations for roads inside the plant, demarcating locations for plant facilities and unloading of construction material.
