TEAM SHOULD be selected well before the scheduled date of any tournament to register win at international level, feels former junior national basketball team member Suchitra Deshmukh. Team should be selected well in advance so that the selected players may get enough time to practice for any tournament, she said.

A member of the Kolhapur team, she is here to participate in the South West Inter-University Basketball Championship. “Facilities are there; regular tournaments are there but lack of time for preparation of selected players affects the performance of the team,” said Suchitra.

She believes that there is no dearth of talent but lack of opportunities come in way of realising the full potential. She said she does not intend to go for career in basketball as it offers little or no scope for players. “I have joined MBA as there is much scope in academics as compared to basketball,” she lamented.

Regarding her team’s chance in the tournament, she said that her team would definitely qualify for the All India Championship, beginning in the City from February 3.
