THE RELAY hunger strike of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur students entered the second day today and students irrespective of caste and creed participated in the strike at the Student Academic Centre (SAC). Even the IIT-K faculty provided striking students the Internet facility so that they could interact with their counterparts in other parts of the country.

Soon, the IITians would be seen at key places of the city selling anti-reservation slogan printed T-shirts. IITians have planned this to generate revenue by their own and with these T-shirts they can disseminate their massage to the public, said some IITians, who are members of the Forum of Indians Against Reservation (FIR).
According to students, the indefinite hunger strike would last till government is compelled to roll back its proposed quota hike. The IITians were overwhelmed with a large number of students turn out at the site of hunger strike showing willingness to sit on hunger strike.
IITians have planned the relay hunger strike in a meticulous way that a few students would sit on the hunger strike on rotation basis and the rest would move around the city interacting and convincing general public about the hazards of reservation in a progressive society.
Lauding the attitude and cooperation of the administration, some students while talking to Hindustan Times said, “We are getting kind support from our faculty and the administration and our protest is against quota politics by the government and on day one the hunger strike proved that students are not divided on caste lines.”
Medicos on Monday evening went to IIT-K premises and encouraged students there sitting on relay hunger strike. Medicos and techies jointly asserted, “Hunger strike is an initial stage of our anti-quota protest later we would sell T-shirts with anti-reservation slogans to general public as we need revenue to sustain our protests.”
Simultaneously, medicos of GSVM Medical College are making a CD that would carry the content showing about the ill effects of reservation on the society. Medicos after showing this CD to undergraduate students would make presentations with the CD before general public.
