As per traditions, married and unmarried women observe one day fast without taking even a sip of water. Married women celebrate this festival for the long life of their husband while unmarried girls perform this puja with a wish for a good husband.

Women take food and water in the wee hours of Teej and observe fast for the whole day.

Dressed up in new clothes, a large number of women thronged different temples and paid obeisance to Lord Ganesh and Shiv-Parvati. After performing worship, women and girls donated some items to the Brahmins.

Women also set up mandaps at their houses where they performed prayers and heard the religious stories of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

A number of make-shift shops selling puja items had been set up in several localities.

Several shops of garments, beauty parlours and jewellery did brisk business prior to the occasion.
