HER HYPNOTIC presentation leaves the spectators glued to their seats. And she never fails to iterate the effect. Emotions flow unhindered with bouts of tears interrupted by occasional chortle.

Emotions flow unhindered with bouts of tears interrupted by occasional chortle.

A few occasions also set the adrenaline flow into the blood. And who else has the nerve to render such performance but Teejan Bai, the 'Pandavani' singer whose name has perhaps become synonymous with the art so much so that they have blended in each other's hues and characteristics.

The receiver of much coveted Padmabhushan award was in the town on Wednesday to perform at 'Chalo Man Ganga Yamuna Teer' in Magh Mela.

Today under the prevailing circumstances when most of the traditional, classical and folk artistes are ready to experiment with the pure form of art and bring in subtle changes in order to attract the youngsters, Teejan Bai has somewhat bifurcated her ways.

"It will be a threat to the very existence of this pure art form of Pandavani style of singing if I think of experimentation," she said.

"Distortion is how I will describe the status if the changes are brought in. It will contribute towards losing the very purity of the art form," she said. "I can do anything except compromising on this front," she said.

A firm believer in sticking to her roots, Teejan Bai penetrated the all male bastion of Pandavani style of singing and earned both name and fame through it.

When questioned about her efforts towards inspiring more youngsters towards this art form, she said, undoubtedly they were inclined towards learning it which was helpful in propagating the art form further.

"More girls are showing interest towards Pandavani which is a good sign," said the singer.

It is always an experience to watch Teejan Bai perform on stage clad in her traditional saree and the heavy crude jewellery with her ektara in her hand.

"Pandavani is like worship for me and I want to continue with this journey of devotion and dedication with sincerity and honesty," she added.
