The arrests on Wednesday followed the attack on 21-year-old Prem Singh Soni at Kumardubi locality in Dhanbad district, 240 kms from Ranchi, following a complaint filed by the victim. Sikhs are not supposed to cut their hair.

Debt was the reason the attack took place, Soni told reporters.

"Last year I had bought a truck from Surjeet Singh. I paid Rs 90,000 in cash while the rest of the amount was to be paid by me. My truck met with an accident in December. So I could not pay the money," he said.

The non-payment infuriated Surjeet and he sent three men to teach a lesson to Soni. The three forcibly took Soni to a saloon where his hair was cut. Surjeet Singh is absconding.
