SP Maharajganj Amitabh Thakur has announced Rs 2500 award for the police team that arrested the miscreants.

Police claimed that the miscreants had confessed to their crime and said they were the agents of a gang circulating fake currency. The miscreants were identified as Gyanesh Gupta, Vinod Kumar Jaiswal and Mohd Jalil.

Talking to mediapersons, Amitabh Thakur said during interrogation the miscreants claimed that they had received Rs 2 lakh fake currency in exchange of Rs 1.28 lakh genuine notes. They were caught as they entered with the fake currency in India.

According to reports, police recovered 120 fake notes in the denomination of Rs 1000 and 160 notes in the denomination of Rs 500. During interrogation, they confessed to have been involved in this business for the last four years. They said that fake currency was supplied to them by Rampreet Jaiswal, Udhoadhikari and Yousuf Ansari, residents of Kathmandu, and claimed that the Pakistani embassy in Nepal was involved in this business. Amitabh Thakur said he had sought cooperation from the Interpol in arrest of the main accused circulating these currencies to damage Indian economy.

DIG SSB HS Dev had repeatedly said that SSB jawans were maintaining strict vigil at the Indo-Nepal border to nab those involved in circulating counterfeit currency but despite his claim, circulation of fake currency through Nepal has continued.
